A couple of people have asked about what my house looks like inside. So, I thought I'd do a post to show you. My house is nothing special, I own it (although still paying the mortgage for a few more years). I have lived here for about 10 years and am now thinking of moving on.
So, here is my lounge. You will probably notice that there are no pictures on the wall. I have only recently finished decorating and am currently on the search for something suitable... ...if you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know :)
Now on to the kitchen diner room. Again, looking rather sparse as I have just recently finished decorating that too (in fact, the whole kitchen was ripped out and a new one fitted. I love this one, as the washing maching, dishwasher and fridge-freezer are all hidden behind cupboard doors. It makes the whole place look much more tidy.
The tiles on the walls were quite expensive... typically the only ones I liked in the shop were also the most expensive. My dad was a hero and put them up for me. As they are stone they were a bugger to cut. He did a fantastic job.. Good ole' Dad!!
He also layed all of the wood flooring for me too!
The dining area is the other end of the room to the kitchen and is a great setting for a evening meal by candle light.
Then we venture upstairs and into my bedroom... this one does have pictures on the wall LOL!
Next is the guest bedroom. This has been piled under tonnes of junk for the past few years and has finally opened itself up for use again...lol! Now I just need to find some guests.... Mmmmmmm
So, finally onto the back garden (yard)... This was completely redesigned by my Dad and I two years ago, and is now slowly becoming established. Hopefull in a year or two it will look great.
...and here is my little cabin at the bottom of my garden. I spend many of my evenings here, with a glass of wine or port along with my laptop or a good book. I have a heater in there for the winter evenings.
Well, that's a whistle stop tour of where I am. Please feel free to give me your critique!
Ta ta for now ~ Graham x

Don't tell me you're single ! Where do I sign ???
Oh yeah - I'm married. Oh well.
:D
Seriously, I've never seen a guy's place that clean and nice. I'm truly amazed.
I love the bedroom, looks really comfy and personal. And nothing wrong with pics on the walls ;) (as long as they're not metal bands from the 80', of course :D )
Just curious - was it hard to find a house ? Housing is incredibly expensive these days in France and people even take mortages over 30 years. I've heard to UK was about the same...
Just curious !
now i'm jealous. You know two men did quite well with the landscaping. Did that cabin come put together or did you build it? I have to admit most american homes are very generic, cold and have no character. they are cookie cutter homes with wall to wall carpet and every other person on the block has your exact layout. Soooo boring.
Btw great wood flooring, if it wasn't for the fact i was living in apartments i would have ripped out this carpeting years ago. Nice picks, and great 'ambiance' lighting. i have to remember that one...
Any cooking done in that kitchen? It sure is...clean..lol
Hey Zhu, thanks for the kind comment. Yep, I'm afraid I'm still single... lol!
I was lucky as I bought my house just over 10 years ago at the end of the last house price crash. My house is now worth x4 the price that I originally paid for it. Trouble is, everywhere else in the UK has gone up the same. If I was buying my first house now, it would be almost impossible to afford.
Hey Muse!! The cabin came in about 300 pieces of wood - but was relatively simple to put together (kinda like a jigsaw) - each plank slotted into the next. Then we had to screw it together and put the beams up, and finally the roof and felt. It took us a few hours to build (perhaps I'll do another post at a later date to show how it was built).
LOL! Yes I have done quite a bit of cooking in it. As I mentioned to you yesterday, I've spent the past few hours tidying up...lol!
Aww, you're place is fabulous! You and your dad should go into business. I love the simplicity yet comfort of it all. If you're ever in the U.S. you'll have to give me some pointers ;). P.S. the huge ass TV is the perfect bachelor pad accessory... the girls will be knocking down the doors :) I'm very envious of your back yard reading space, how nice to have a place to read, write, drink, and be merry!
Looks very nice and cozy. I spent some time in Europe, West Germany that is. Of course, the summers are very short and I prefer long ones :-)
Stop by to visit my blog and chat when you get a chance.
There was just something so joyously voyeuristic about touring your house! ... LOVE the cabin... I can see why you spend so much time there. That's next on my list - to OWN vs. rent.
WOW! Firstly, what a tidy place for a bachelor, and really tastefully done. NO rush for those pics on the wall - you'll just know what to put.
And I am SOOO jealous that you have a beautiful backyard and the fact that you have space for a mini lounge.... so jealous!! ;-)
Really cool place! I really admire your tidiness I have to say. Whenever I think about tidying up my place (emphasis on 'think') I am always considering which one is a more viable option : Tidying up the place or incinerating it:)
A hard choice indeed:)
Love what you've done with the back yard by the way. It has a nice personal feel to it. I 've been to a lot of UK houses of this type and it always stroke me how they all look the same you know. Same little yard, same grass pattern, same fence, yours has some distinct personal style and be proud of that!
By the way who is your dad? McGyver??!!! :). Amazing things he did with the place from a construction point of view, all credit to him as well!
Ok, now stop blushing , I know you are sentimental and all but I am all out of tissues...:)
Take care and keep up the cool posting!
Wow, lovely home, so cozy and peaceful looking. I love it!
I love travel blogs, too!
I'll be back lots.
wow....it surely beats mtv cribs. i love the setting of your house: simple yet homely. personally, i love the little cozy hut in the garden. it gives you a great place to relax in. i must say, it's the best bachelor pad I've seen yet :) !
Okay, you can totally pick up a ton of chicks with a place like that. A TON.
Hi, Graham! Nice home you got, looks sooo cozy...and I really love your little cabin...sooo cute. A perfect place to be. I could spend the whole day in there if I want some privacy or just relaxing...
Daszzle, the girls must have the wrong address. Either that or my doorbell has run out of batteries...lol!
I have a saying...."Simple things for a simple man". Seems to be working so far.
Tosh, thanks I will definitely pop in and have a read :)
Hiya Jill!!! Thanks for the comment. I'm looking forward to my holiday so that I can read your book. Not long now :D
La bellina Mammina, thanks :) It's one of those places that is cosy to be in when it's sunny and even more cosy to be in when it's raining. The sound of the rain on the roof is so relaxing.
DP - I do hope things are going okay for you. I have my fingers crossed hoping that the fires stop soon. By thoughts are with you all. Take care mate!
Jessica, thanx. I look forward to reading yours too!!
Marjie, how ya doin'? Trust me, it doesn't always look like this - the photos were taken on a particularly tidy day...lol!
Hey Bottleblond :D
I'll keep you informed on my progress LoL!
Choc, thanx for your comment. It's been such a useful place. It's like being on a mini holiday!!
Graham, it was this very photo that made me determined to have my own way with a studio. I remember thinking "he has one in his little back yard, so I want mine NOW and not in ten years!".
When I started reading your post, I was thinking, "Goodness, how brave to post pictures of the inside of your house!" Then I saw the pictures, and realised that it wasn't brave at all, as your home is so lovely - neat and tidy whilst still being welcoming and cosy. For me it would be an act of bravery, as I'm currently living in a complete mess. I seem to have given up housework for the duration of my doctorate! Anyway, well done on creating such a lovely home!
